HAIR TRANSPLANTATION

Probably the problem most complained about due to aesthetic aspect today is baldness or hair shedding. While some people experience it in older ages, some come across with it in young ages and hair loss is not only a men’s problem but it is also a problem for both sexes. Unfortunately this problem can go further to create negative impact in social lives.

REASONS OF ALOPECIA or ATRICHIOSIS

Hair shedding in men and women shows differences. While hair loss in men derives especially from family genetic, hair loss in women mostly derives from the hormonal changes in postnatal period and menopause, some diseases such as thyroid problems, anemia, mineral (mostly iron) deficiency, vitamin (mostly D) deficiency, heavy stress, harmful cosmetic products and traumas.

Hair loss treatment therefore shows differences depending on the problem’s source. Sometimes treatment of the disorder behind it can stop the hair loss. In some cases, the only solution is hair transplantation.

HOW IS HAIR TRANSPLANTATION APPLIED?

Hair transplantation operation can be applied on both men and women and is the process of transferring the hair bulbs from the region with the intense hair to the region with the hair loss.

Hair transplantation is serious process that needs to be done by a specialist physician and his/her team. The team’s quality and experience is highly important.Patients’ hair is examined by the physician who will perform the hair transplantation operation and the patient is informed about the treatment plan and hair transplantation in detail. In this examination, openness or rareness area is measured and the health and frequency of the hair on the neck where it does not shed is checked. Hair bulb amount to be transferred is planned before the operation.

The important point in hair transplantation is the technique.

 FUE TECHNIQUE

FUE technique is what is predominantly applied in the world and in our country. Hair bulbs are picked up one by one from the neck in the back of the head. Hair bulbs collected from the donor region are one by one transferred to the area to be transplanted. This process is performed under local anesthesia. No pain is expected during the process.

The first 2-3 hours is the process of pulling the grafts (hair bulbs) and the patient lies facedown at this moment. Once the pulling of the grafts is completed, a break can be given and the patient can have food before the transplantation process. Transplantation process can last 2-4 hours depending on the graft amount. Meanwhile the patient lies on his/her back and with his/her head slightly high. One can watch TV or listen to music at this process.

No mark is left on the neck with this technique. At the end of 1 year in average, the transplanted hair gains strength and health in the new region.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) and hair mesotherapy are the additional treatment that can be applied to support the hair transplantation.

PRP is the process where the scalp is repaired by the patient’s own blood being used. Plasma from the patient’s own blood is administered via injection under the skin. It also can be used to get better results from the placed grafts after the hair transplantation operations.

Hair mesotherapy is the injecting of the vitamin and mineral and anti-oxidants the hair needs as a mixture to the scalp. This process is also applied to the scalp via injection as in PRP.
